Susan's gotta poker, you know, " it said, as if anxious to be helpful. WELL, WELL. INDEED. MY GOODNESS ME. week she picked up a bogey by its nose." Death tried to imagine this. He felt sure he'd heard the sentence wrong, but it didn't sound a whole lot better however he rearranged the words. Terry Pratchett
About This Quote

The quote, "Susan's gotta poker, you know," it said, as if anxious to be helpful. WELL, WELL. INDEED. MY GOODNESS ME." is a short exchange from the 1998 film "The Big Lebowski" where the brain damaged Walter Sobchak has trouble comprehending a conversation between his wife Molly and his friend Donny.

The conversation goes like this: Donny: Hey, ya know that movie with the girl and the dog and the boat and the bird and- Molly: Can we not do this? I'm tired. I'm going to bed. Donny: Susan's gotta poker, you know… Molly: No! No! I mean like - like my very favorite movie of all time is "Jaws"…. Donny: Oh yeah? What's your favorite part? Molly: Well, my very favorite part is when she has to drown the shark. That is one of my favorite movie scenes of all time.

There's just something about watching her run up and back and forth in front of that shark and she can't get away and then just as they're about to catch her that great white jumps out of the water… Donny: You're shittin' me…I can't believe you don't know who Susan is! We've been married over thirty years! She's my wife! The one I was telling you about last week…you don't know who Susan is?! Here, Death tries to imagine what Donny must have been thinking when he heard this. Was he offended? Was he confused? Was he concerned for his wife’s mental stability because she was obsessively watching movies about sharks killing people? Was it possible that Donny was actually happy she didn’t recognize him because it meant there were things she missed out on in their long marriage? This would explain why Donny was so eager to bring up this scene again throughout the rest of the film because no matter how many times Death had seen it before or how many times it had been described over the years since its release, there were still parts he had yet to see for himself.
